No More RSS
As a notice for those of you subscribed to the RSS feed: in about a week, I plan to get rid of it.
Don’t panic, the Atom feed will still be available. In fact, the URL for the RSS feed will point to the Atom feed. It just won’t be RSS.
I have a couple reasons for doing this. First of all, it’s kind of silly to support two different feed formats. They both show up the same in the reader.
Second, I’m going to be adding comment feeds for each post.
I don’t want the feed selection to get more cluttered,
and I certainly don’t want to have to write
four separate feed templates ([Posts, Comments] x [Atom, RSS]).
Why Atom?
The main reason is just that both of the formats are supported by everything, and I had to choose one. Why not Atom? The name is certainly nicer.
Atom’s also much more polished than RSS. It has a reasonable specification. It has various features that RSS lacks. It makes use of all sorts of fuzzy XML features.
So if you’re reading this on a feed reader, you might want to switch over to http://nex3.leeweiz.net/posts.atom. Or not; .rss will probably redirect there for a good long time.
